To perform a Registry Backup before making any changes:
Start
Run
regedit
Registry (On the file menu)
Export registry file...
A save window will appear so you can choose what to call and where to save the backup file.
Tip: Choose a short easy to remember file name and location (just in case you need to use/find it if things go wrong).
